Medical Management

At Roseville Skin Cancer Clinic, we provide specialist management not only for skin cancers and pre-cancers, but also for a wide range of common skin conditions. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and a vital part of your immune system, protecting you from infections, toxins, and the environment. Keeping it healthy is essential for both your well-being and confidence.

Treatments for Pre-Cancers & Early Skin Cancers

We use advanced topical therapies to treat actinic keratoses (sun spots) and some very early skin cancers, targeting abnormal skin cells.

  • Topical Antimetabolite Creams – Applied nightly for a prescribed period to act on sun-damaged and very early cancerous cells. These creams can cause redness, irritation, crusting, and sometimes burning or swelling, especially on sensitive areas. The skin often looks worse before it heals, and strict daily use is required. Rarely, severe reactions may lead to infection or scarring, but most patients heal within weeks with clear cosmetic results.
  • Immune Response Modifiers – Used for superficial sun spots. These creams stimulate your immune system to destroy abnormal cells. Treatment often triggers visible inflammation, redness, oozing, crusting, and swelling which can be uncomfortable and cosmetically distressing during the course. Some people may also experience flu-like symptoms. Not everyone is suitable for this therapy, but for those who are, the results are effective.
  • Topical Non-Steroidal Medications – A well-tolerated option for actinic keratoses, applied twice daily for a prescribed period. Usually causes minimal or no visible reaction.

Management of Common Skin Conditions

Our specialists also diagnose and treat a range of everyday but often distressing skin conditions:

  • Dermatitis & Eczema – Causes itchy, dry, flaky skin, often triggered by irritants, stress, allergies or climate. Treatments may include moisturisers, topical steroids, antihistamines, and lifestyle advice.
  • Psoriasis – A chronic condition causing thickened, red skin with silvery scales. While not curable, treatments such as topical therapies and lifestyle strategies can reduce symptoms and improve appearance.
  • Acne – Caused by blocked hair follicles, oil, and dead skin cells, acne can result in pimples, blackheads, or inflammation. Management may include skincare advice, topical retinoids, antibiotics, or hormonal therapy depending on severity.
  • Persistent Itch – Often caused by minor skin issues, but can sometimes signal underlying conditions. We investigate persistent itch and provide tailored treatments such as topical creams or oral medication.
